John and I fanboy over our latest guest, H.W. Brands, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He is an author and historian. John and I can barely hide our excitement as we discuss how history should be taught, what we can learn from our past, and what made our founders different than modern-day politicians. Were they radicals? Perhaps. Were they bold? Absolutely. The conversation centers around his article written in 2003 for the Atlantic called Founders Chic, and a recent article written on his Substack called Life after Life. Be sure to subscribe to his Substack: A User’s Guide to History.

OH, and stick around for the lightning round and find out who his favorite non-presidential American political figure to study is.

Be sure to pick up a copy of one of his wonderful biographies on Andrew Jackson, Ben Franklin, and more! His latest release is Founding Partisans: Hamilton, Madison, Jefferson, Adams and the Brawling Birth of American Politics.
