Americans are incredible. We have accomplished so much in such a short time. We have built an empire that planted a flag on the moon. But when empires extend, the ambition of success leaves compassion for people behind. Governments enlarge, businesses grow, but people are unrepresented.
Today in the Hill, I write about what’s next for Kamala Harris. I take a compassionate look at someone I disagree with politically. I provide her with the advice I would give a loved one. Don’t give up. Look to others who have been through what you’ve been through and learn from them.
The piece looks at Kamala’s childhood and inspiration for politics: power and civil rights. I compare her humiliating defeat with the defeat of John Quincy Adams to another populist, Andrew Jackson, in 1828. Adams didn’t give up on the American principle of the Right to Representation. Instead, he embraced it, serving in Congress until his death in 1848.

Peace & Love,
