Hello Citizens!
As you may know, I am helping John Beatty run for Congress. Today, I would like to share a story about Harry Truman that connects to John’s story.
Harry grew up in Independence, Missouri, as a farmer. He worked the land with his Father and siblings. He was a kind, patient, and ambitious man. He was well-read and rarely seen without a book in his hands during times of leisure. When the Great War broke out, he volunteered to serve even though he was above the draft age. During the War, Truman was known as a man who didn’t panic.
Discovering he was a leader of men during the war, when he returned, he entered politics. He was elected to be Judge of Jackson County, Missouri's Eastern District. He was instrumental in the planning and construction of a series of new roads, which was a significant undertaking at the time.
Next, he became a US Senator. He was straight-laced and stayed out of the party corruption that was so commonly known at the time. Truman refused to sell influence. He said of the corruption, “Looks like everybody got rich in Jackson County but me.”
While in the Senate, Truman was a dedicated public servant. It was noted of him that, “He speaks rarely, listens much.” Truman believed that “If you’re going to be in politics…you have to explain to people what you stand for, and to learn to stand up in front of a crowd and talk.” As a Senator, Truman was concerned about the concentration of power and population in the east and big cities. He believed there was “too much bigness in everything.”
This is where Truman's story connects with John Beatty. John is concerned with the concentrated power in Washington. He believes the House of Representatives needs to be expanded to return power to all the people of the United States, not just those in large cities. This will balance the influences of rural America and corporate America.
John is a leader. When Loudoun County was looking for a conservative member for its school board, John stepped in and served. He listens, is well-read, and stands on principle. He is dedicated to explaining his ideas and making a connection with the community.
John stands for the Republic. John stands for balanced government and divided power. John believes people, not politicians, are the power behind our government. He strives to work with his community to make the necessary changes to return power back to individuals and away from special interests.
