Today, in The Hill, I compare the MAGA Revolution to the French Revolution. I discuss the lack of leadership combined with the destructive nature of the second Trump administration, Elon, and DOGE. Presidents and government representatives are servants of the people. They have many responsibilities, but the most basic is stability. Civil society and economic success do not come from chaos.
I have spoken to MAGA supporters who were present on January 6th. While grateful to have a pardon, they are perplexed by everyone's receiving one. While still being Trump supporters, they expressed frustration and fear with the administration's lack of transparency and plan.
Another Trump supporter I spoke with is frustrated with the attacks on Tom Massie and excessive use of executive orders. They pointed out that while it’s great that DOGE is finding and cutting waste, if they don’t fix the budget process and pass legislation through Congress, it’s meaningless, and nothing will change.
The reality is that Trump has a choice. If he wants to serve the people, he should stop letting Elon pull his strings, walk over to the Longworth building, reach across the aisle, and govern. Or he can let Elon continue to burn down the republic, and Trump can hope to pass his monarchy over to his children.
A government of the people is preserved by representation. Executive orders undermine people’s rights and destroy representative government. Trump is losing his base. He better change course fast, or the midterms could be historically bad for him.
Peace and Love,
